Independent Contractor Qualifications

  • Must be 25 years of age or older
  • Class A CDL preferred but not required
  • If the contractor does not have a CDL, his license must state that he is licensed to transport a commercial load with a GCWR of 26,000 lbs.
  • MVR Reports will be checked for the previous 3 years and cannot contain more than 2 moving violation or a total of 4 points
  • No history of drug, DUI, OWI, careless, reckless driving, or habitual offender convictions
  • Full 10 year work history must be documented on the application
  • Pass an Indiana Transport road check
  • Pass a DOT drug test prior to being dispatched
  • Possess a current DOT physical
  • Must have a cell phone
  • Must provide a digital camera or a digital camera phone

Truck Requirements

  • Truck is to be 2004 or newer.  (Older trucks will considered with photo)
  • Truck will be inspected by Indiana Transport for appropriate equipment prior to dispatch
  • Truck must have a current DOT truck inspection and proof it was completed by a professional service center
  • Truck must be equipped with the following:
    • Class IV or Class V receiver  with a 2 5/16 ball and a solid steel shaft rated at least 10,000 pounds
    • 1000 pound or larger load distribution bars
    • 5th wheel  rated at 16,000 pounds or larger (20,000 preferred)
    • Full wheel mud flaps at the tire or full mud flap at the bumper
    • Mirrors that accommodate 102 trailers
    • 4 way lug wrench or torque wrench with ¾.13/16 & 7/8 deep well sockets
    • Digital trailer brake control  electrical over hydraulic preferred
    • Break-away battery - wet cell battery preferred
    • Auxiliary fuel tank, tool box, etc. that extends above the bed are discouraged
    • Truck must be a heavy duty ¾ or 1 ton (8 foot bed preferred)
    • Truck is to be registered with a 26,000 lb. license plate
    • 4 wheel drive truck bed must measure under 59 (top of the bed to the ground)
    • 7-way electric plug in the truck bed and at the bumper
    • Appropriate Liability Insurance
